Jamie Neilsen Photography: The Blog bio picture

Hi, I'm Jamie!

I know you have a choice.  There are a lot of photographers out there – which is a great thing because it keeps pushing me to be better than ever. When you choose me to be your photographer, I do a little happy dance and then I get right to work on creating the perfect portrait experience for you. While my craft is closely tied to gear and gadgets, I know that you are a person and you deserve a personal experience.

I promise to not only take “pretty pictures” but to take pictures that make your heart swell and your toes curl.

I promise to let you be you and photograph what comes naturally.

I promise to be silly, have fun and make you laugh out loud.

I promise to provide plenty of options and guidance so you get exactly what you’re looking for…and then add a cherry on top that you didn’t even ask for.

I promise to deliver high quality heirloom photographs that you can’t wait to hang on your walls…big.

And when it’s all said and done…

I promise to stay in touch well after your session because I value our relationship.

I’m Jamie Neilsen and I’d be honored to be your photographer.

Wanna know more?

I didn’t find photography. Photography found me.
Chewy chocolate brownies are my weakness. No nuts. No frosting.
My husband is my jeweler, personal chef and best friend.
I have nearly a dozen brothers and sisters.
I’m not a morning person.
I adore all things Italian – especially red wine and rich food.
I’m a PC by day and a Mac by night.
I don’t own a TV.
I’d rather dress up than wear jeans and a t-shirt.
I am a lifestyle and portrait photographer.

Brice & Samantha | Siblings

“Someone asked them to be quiet, so it’s just a matter of time before all hell breaks loose.” –Story People

You’re nodding your head, aren’t you? Those words from Story People are a concept I try to incorporate into all my sessions. You’ll never hear me use the words “say cheese” or “sit still”. Those are words that almost always backfire on the photographer. Instead, I’ll probably say things like “poop” and “boogers” or “stinky feet” when a little boy “sits” in front of my lens. If it’s a little girl, you might hear me say things like “puppy” and “can you see the fairies in my lens?”. Those tricks usually work great…and if they don’t…the tickle monster is likely to make an appearance.

Brice and Samantha’s session required all the top level photographer tricks + mom + grandma + favorite boots and capes to pull off these great smiles and gorgeous pictures. Our goal was to get some traditional head-shots for grandma’s walls and to celebrate Samantha turning two. I’m not gonna lie…there were a few meltdowns and the session ended with Sam jumping on her bed in nothing but a diaper instead of the adorable outfits mom picked out for her. But despite all that, I think we accomplished our goal and I think these pictures tell a pretty good story of what life is like at the Moe house.

So without further ado, allow me to present the ever charming Brice…

…and his sassy little sister Samantha!

Brice was an excellent assistant. He helped make his little sister smile and served as backup photographer with his very cool camera. (I know what my nephew is getting for his birthday ;) )

This next shot…precious…darling…those puppy dog eyes will take her far in life.

Do I even need to explain how awesome Brice’s expression is here? Just another reason why you don’t need to say cheese!

At this point, Sam was the star of the show and we basically let her loose to do what two year olds do. She chose to wear nothing at all and jump and dive on her bed. It was pretty adorable.
