I’m a total city girl. I love the closeness and the bustle. I even love the noise. When Steve and I sit out on our back porch we sometimes comment on the soothing sound of the “ocean” (aka freeway) in the distance. Suburbs, cul-de-sacs, and cookie cutter homes generally make me angry and uncomfortable, but lately, my photo sessions have taken me to some gorgeous places outside the city. A couple visits up to Mount Vernon gave me incredible views of the snow covered mountains and last weekend I met this good lookin’ family out in Snohomish. Just down the road from their home is the most incredible nursery. At Flower World, 15 acres of displays, a pond, some geese and well kept lawns are tucked back in the woods. They encourage wandering and that’s just what we did on this chilly November day.

One of my favorite things about the holidays as a kid was shopping for the Christmas dress. Poofy, silky, velvety. Black, white, red. Sometimes with bows. Sometimes with sparkles. It would be worn to church and a holiday performance. A picture would be taken by the tree or in front of the fireplace. We’d wear forced smiles and pink lipstick and way too much hair gel. And as silly as my siblings and I look in those photos from our past, I still get warm and fuzzy thinking about the dress. When I saw these girls in their perfectly poofy, frilly and twirly Christmas dresses…I got a mild case of heart squeeze.
