New Projects | My New Baby

hands

Has it really been a whole week since my last blog? Where does the time go? Well, some of it has been spent on an interesting commercial project. A cold patch asphalt company has hired me to make new pictures for their website redesign and future marketing materials. I’ll tell you, photographing potholes and asphalt isn’t very sexy but I’m having fun thinking out of the box and trying to add a little human interest and color to an otherwise very gray project. We still have a few more rounds to go before I can give you all the dirty details. In the meantime, we’re gettin’ dirty and tryin’ to stay dry.

Over the weekend, I was invited to take various family portraits at a 50th wedding anniversary celebration. The families were a ton on fun and incredibly sweet. I should be wrapping up their session this week so plan on seeing more cute faces and happy families back here in a few days.

The weather is really finicky here lately. Winter storm warnings are in effect which means everyone here in the low lands are bracing for the inevitable floods. We have a lot of rivers here and sometimes they get out of control. It’s hard to really take it seriously though as its actually sunny outside my window as I type this. But, I do know how quickly that can change! I had a senior session planned for last Sunday and although Saturday was gorgeous and dare I say warm, by Sunday it was pouring and more than a little chilly. I’m encouraging all my upcoming sessions to plan their shoot at home or another indoor location like the Seattle Central Library (which is an art piece all on its own).

And lets not forget that Halloween is just around the corner! I’m putting the final stitches on my nephews custom superhero capes and can hardly wait to see them all decked out. And it’s even more exciting since MY BRAND NEW CANON 7D ARRIVED LAST NIGHT!!! I barely left the house yesterday in anticipation of the UPS guy showing up at my door. When he wasn’t here by 5pm I was sure he wasn’t coming. By 6pm I was cranky and crushed. By 7pm I had given up hope…and then I heard footsteps creaking up my neighbors stairs. Knowing that they actually moved out earlier this month led me to think that perhaps my dear UPS man was lost. I ran outside and hollered into the dark, “is that you UPS?”.  And the dark hollered back, “is that you Jamie Neilsen?”. YES! YES! YES! I nearly hugged him but he shoved a box between us and teased, “it must be something special”. Ummm….yeah…like my new baby! So we’re getting aquainted and I’m pushing all the buttons and turning all the dials. It’s almost the exact same size and weight as Isla (the 40D) but it does soooo much more. Now I need to name her. Any ideas?

Congratulations on your new baby, I’m very excited for you.

Kim - I’ll think of some names for your baby but if you’re like me it’s hard to take advice on that one. Ryan thinks you’re clever and fun. :) Can’t wait to see what that baby can do!
