“Lips half-willing in a doorway.
Lips half-singing at a window.
Eyes half-dreaming in the walls.
Feet half-dancing in a kitchen.
Even the clocks half-yawn the hours
And the farmers make half-answers.”
- Carl Sandburg, Village in Late September

Well, here it is! The beautiful bench Steve made me for our anniversary. I finally got around to taking pictures of it after I spent a chilly morning decorating our porch for Fall. All those wonderful pumpkins, gourds and squash came straight from our garden. We have our own little pumpkin patch! Our garden has done so well this year. We did a lot of experimenting with what would grown where in our newly expanded garden. All the tomatoes and tomatillos grew in abundance. Most of the onions did well too. We enjoyed broccoli and kohlrabi and some very tasty peppers. The brussel sprouts are still going at it, as are the potatoes and cabbage. But the landscape is definitely changing. All the squash leaves have faded and wrinkled. The pea vines are long gone. And now, there are so many empty spots of bare ground where once there was abundance. The whole yard seems to be going limp and paling before my eyes. But never mind that! The new decorations and a fresh bouquet have brightened up our porch and we’ve been eating some very tasty meals from our backyard. Picture me in a knit hooded dress with leggings and my big fuzzy slippers huddled under a fleece with a cup of tea and good book. I’m right there on that beautiful bench admiring the season.
