Shoultz Family | Portraits at the Beach

Working with large groups can be a challenge. I remember my days working for a portrait studio where no one wanted to get stuck with a big family. It’s one thing to try and get a three year old to look at you and smile. It’s another thing to get a three year old, two five year olds and an eight year old to look at you at the same time and smile. To get four children and six adults to look at you, listen to you, trust you and smile…well that’s where I come in. I love photographing big groups!

Friends, I’d like you to meet the Shoultz Family. It was incredibly bright at our 5pm start time on the beach of Discovery Park. I was a little worried about shooting in the harsh sun but this gorgeous family brought their very best in front of the lens and we got some fantastic shots.

Six people from this group don’t live here in Washington state and it was the first time on a beach for two of the little ones. Pictures like this with a  beautiful Pacific Northwest backdrop should really spice up the walls of their Midwest homes.

We did a lot of family breakdowns with this group. Here are the grandparents with all their grand-kids.

The Northwest Family…

The Midwest Family…

The kids! One of the dads suggested this shot with the kids. Great idea! I love how it turned out.

It’s important to get the parents in a picture all by themselves too. You don’t want to be one of those couples who only has pictures from their wedding day! Aren’t these some cute couples?

We manged to have some fun in the water too! I love this candid father/son shot…

I barely caught this next shot. Aren’t those big, blue eyes stunning?

Thank you, Shoultz Family, for a fun evening on the beach. It was so great to meet you all and I hope you love your pictures. Be sure to check out the slide show to see the rest of the session…
