“There is no use trying” said Alice. “One can’t believe impossible things.”
“I dare say you haven’t had much practice” said the Queen. “When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”
-Lewis Carroll

I’ve been thinking a lot about creativity and imagination lately. This is a picture of a breakfast I ordered in Maui at a “hole-in-the-wall” restaurant in Lahaina. The description said: Half a papaya with cottage cheese and fruit slices, sprinkled with granola. It sounded tasty enough to order and a nice change from boring pancakes but I was blown away by the presentation.
Life truly is art. You can make anything more beautiful with a little creativity and imagination.
I can picture the chef in his tiny kitchen in the back preparing my mouth watering papaya breakfast bowl. He cuts each slice of fruit with similar thickness and places each just-so with consideration of placement to color and shape . He sprinkles the granola with excitement over his masterpiece careful to keep even coverage. I imagine he smiled at his work of art as he handed it off to the server who quickly put it on display for my hungry eyes and grumbling tummy. I wish every meal was this lovely.
It reminded me that anything can be done more than one way and there’s always another way, a better way, a more beautiful way to imagine. May you find beauty throughout your day and may you imagine impossible things not just before breakfast but in all that you do.
