Jamie Neilsen Photography: The Blog bio picture

Hi, I'm Jamie!

It all began back in high-school when I covered my walls with pages torn out of fashion magazines. I’ve never really been into fashion but I love the art created by visionary photographers that make up those beautiful pages. It should be no surprise that my favorite book is “Vanity Fair: The Portraits”.

I took my first photography class back in high-school and learned all about lines, contrast and light. Before long I used my sisters and friends as models and began to cover my walls in my own art. When I was seventeen I took a job as a photographer for a retail portrait studio and within six months I was managing the studio and training new photographers.

In college I ventured into video production. There I learned about storytelling and animation; Photoshop and Illustrator; gear and gadgets; confidence and teamwork. All of this led to meeting my future husband, diving into the world of wedding videography and discovering that my real passion was back in the world of still photography.

My family is very important to me and I spend a lot of time with my sisters (my best friends) and my little nephews. Sometimes I fear that generations from now will never know what I looked like because I’m always behind the camera at every family event and non-event.

Miscellaneous jobs as a nanny, caregiver for a special needs child, dispatcher for a plumbing company, fitness club manager, guest services coordinator, and assistant for a legal team at a major software company have all prepared me to accept the challenges of being a business owner and living out my passion in the world of photography.

As Lead Photographer and Creative Director behind Jamie Neilsen Photography I want to remind you that life is FUN! I take the pictures to prove it.

Family Portraits | Geyer Family

The weather finally cooperated this weekend and I was able to meet up with the fabulous, fun Geyer family in Georgetown for family portraits! They are so easy going, easy to work with and easily amused. That was great news for me since taking pictures of a photographer’s family can be a bit intimidating.

Little Coen is soooo smart and such a ham. It’s no wonder Kirsten and Dave can’t take their eyes off him.

I wanted to make sure Kirsten had a few of just her and Coen since I know she’s usually behind the camera when it comes to family pictures. This kissing picture wasn’t even a planned shot. They’re just really that sweet.

There’s more to come from part two of this portrait session later this week. Coen helped me take some awesome shots of mommy and daddy and there’s a fantastic series of shots where the whole family cracks up with full body laughter! It’s impossible to look at them without giggling back at them.

Thanks for the fun afternoon Geyer family! I hope you love them.
