Here we are on December 1st. Only 30 days left of 2008 and only 13 more days until my birthday.
You know what else is special about this date?
53 years ago a woman named Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to move to the back of the bus.
“I would like to be known as a person who is concerned about freedom and equality and justice and prosperity for all people.” -Rosa Parks
And 49 years ago on this day the first color photograph of Earth was reeived from outer space.
“The Earth reminded us of a Christmas tree ornament hanging in the blackness of space. As we got farther and farther away it diminished in size. Finally it shrank to the size of a marble, the most beautiful marble you can imagine. That beautiful, warm, living object looked so fragile, so delicate, that if you touched it with a finger it would crumble and fall apart. Seeing this has to change a man, has to make a man appreciate the creation of God and the love of God.” - James Irwin, USA
And on the very same day 12 nations signed a treaty for scientific peaceful use of Antarctica.
“Polar exploration is at once the cleanest and most isolated way of having a bad time which has yet been devised.” -Apsley Cherry-Garrard
173 years ago Hans Christian Andersen published his first book of fairy tales.
“Just living is not enough. One must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.” -Hans Christian Andersen
Today is a pretty good day. May yours go down in history.
